When was the last time you spent time with yourself? Most people rarely
afford themselves this luxury. Individuals face these various pressures of
daily activity from getting the children off to school early in the morning,
rushing to prepare for work, then running out the door to get to work on
time. All this before their business day has begun. Then of course there is
the many stressful situations that arise within the work place. Whew! I’m
exhausted and drained already! How does one get past this?

Well, it is simple. You must take a moment....and yes there is a moment that
you can use to refresh, regroup and get hold of things. A coffee break,
lunch break or five minutes behind closed doors provides a good opportunity
to run away. This simple little exercise can be done within this window of
opportunity.

RELAXING THROUGH RELEASING BODY TENSION:

To put your mind and body at ease, sit comfortably in your favourite chair
and tune into each part of your body as you proceed. You may choose to have
relaxing music softly playing in the background. Close your eyes and in
progression slowly focus on:

- the weight of your body in the chair - back is straight and feet are
placed flat on the floor
- the soles of your feet and joints of your toes - RELAX THEM
- the muscles in your lower legs/calves/knees/upper legs/thighs - RELAX
THEM
- the hips buttocks/pelvic areas - RELAX THEM
- your waist - RELAX IT
- your upper body including chest, ribs, vertebrae - RELAX THEM
- your fingers/arms/shoulders - RELAX THEM
- your neck/head/jaw/ears/nose/facial muscles and eyes - RELAX THEM

Now all of your body is at rest. Breath deeply and slowly by inhaling
through your nose and exhaling through slightly parted lips.

VISUALIZE - your whole body is like a “RAGGEDY ANDY OR RAGGEDY ANN” totally
relaxed.

This technique is very easy to master, and though it may seem simplistic, it
works.

Do this in your office or at home for five minutes. Treat yourself. You
deserve a break today to be totally-you!
